Tuberose

This bulb produces tall flower spikes with numerous tubular blooms and a fragrance that is rich, sultry and seductive. The Tuberose, also known as Polianthes tuberosa, is a night-blooming. Because of its sweet, heavy scent. This stem often grows 91 cm high and bears flowers of a pink-cream shade, each with six sword-shaped petals. The tuberose (Polianthes tuberosa) is a perennial plant related to the agaves, extracts of which are used as a middle note in perfumery. The common name derives from the Latin tuberosa, meaning swollen or tuberous in reference to its root system.

Types of Tuberose are:

  • Sringar
  • Mexican
  • The Pearl
  • Rajat Rekha, and
  • Swarna Rekha etc.


But some peoples know by colour name like:

  • Pink Tuberose
  • Reddish-white Tuberose
  • Yellow Tuberose
  • White Tuberose, and
  • White-Reddish Tuberose etc.

If roses are queen of the flower and Jasmine the jewels of the perfume then, tuberose flower is muse toxic and inedible like the lily, lily of the valley or narcissus. Two varieties of Polianthes tuberosa are used.  Usual tuberose  is used in perfumery as it provides better organoleptic characteristics. It is useful in perfume.
